About Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa Harbour

About 20 years ago the bustling town of Ayia Napa was a small fishing village with a population of 200. The name of Ayia Napa comes from Saint Panaya (Mary mother of Christ). A small church in the centre of the village was named after our Mother Mary. The cave is still there and to visit it is a must.

Ayia Napa was once a very poor village and the people were struggling to make ends meet, the only income for most people came from the local fishing port and life could be pretty hard at times. After the Turkish army invaded in 1974, the town of Famagusta was illegally occupied by Turkish troops and there for lost all its revenue from the tourist industry. Then to fill the void in the economy and the nightlife Ayia Napa was born. For today’s modern youth we have the centre of Ayia Napa that caters for their night life with clubs and bars. If this is not your cup of tea then do not despair, we have the out skirts of Ayia Napa that offers peace and tranquility, not to mention the many wonderful restaurants and taverns. Ayia Napa is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island of Cyprus and all of the Mediterranean.

Over the years Ayia Napa has grown into a sought after holiday resort with miles of beautiful beaches and tourist attractions. It has grown and grown and with its crystal blue sea and golden sands, Ayia Napa has become the destination of choice for the international jet setter. This town caters for every taste. Whether you are looking for two weeks boogying the night away on the dance floor or relaxing in one of the exclusive Ayia Napa resorts, or perhaps you want to hire a car and drive around this beautiful island, Ayia Napa is the town for you.
