About Larnaca

Larnaca BeachThe sea side town of Larnaca has many facades; although modern it is also steeped in history. After Saint Lazarus’ resurrection, he became the first bishop of Larnaca. The Agios Lazarus church was built where the saint’s remains were found in order to honour him. The beautiful church, is located close to the Phinikoudes beach and promenade and anyone is able to visit the church at all times and also has weekly tours where visitors discover its vast history.

Larnaca PhinikoudesThe Phinikoudes sea front; (suitably named due to the fact that Phinikia translated into English, means palm tree) is famous for its… you guessed it “palm trees”. The beach is suitable for all ages and a favourite with the tourists. The promenade is lined with restaurants and cafes on one side and the ocean on the other. In the evening the Phinikoudes seafront offers the best night out in Larnaca, with countless choices of pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs. Most clubs hold exciting events during the Summer months and bring world famous DJs to ensure a great night out.

Neolithic Settlement of ChoirokitiaAnother exciting attraction is the Neolithic settlement of Choirokitia which was founded by a community of primary farmers; who made a living tending livestock, hunting and trading with neighbouring communities. It is believed to date back to 5800 B.C. This attraction is definitely worth renting a car and driving up to see.

Also to be found in Larnaca are the ruins of ancient city of Kition, birthplace of the infamous philosopher Zenon; the founder of the Stoic School (Greek school of philosophy) in 308 B.C., whose beliefs were that God determined everything for the best and that virtue is sufficient to happiness.
